The short version
Heard helps you collect short video messages from someone’s people and turn them into one private reveal. To do that we hold a small amount of information: your account email, the details of the gift you create, the video messages people record, and basic analytics about how the site is used. We do not sell your information. We never make the videos public. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.
What we collect
Account and sign-in. When you create a gift we ask for your email address and send a magic link to sign you in. We store that email and the times you sign in.
The gift you create. The recipient’s first name, the occasion, an optional event date, and the private links we generate for collecting and revealing messages.
Video messages. The short videos that contributors record, the name a contributor gives, and a still image taken from the video. Anyone with your record link can add a message, so only share it with people you trust.
Payment. Payments are processed by Stripe. We receive a confirmation that you paid and your email, but we never see or store your full card number.
Analytics. Pages visited, the site that referred you, approximate country, device and browser type, and a privacy-preserving visitor identifier. Our analytics provider stores a one-way hash of your IP address rather than the address itself.
Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of first-party cookies for analytics, set by DataFast, a privacy-friendly analytics service. These cookies let us understand which channels bring people to Heard and which steps people complete, so we can improve the product. They are not used for advertising and we do not share them with ad networks.
When you sign in as a buyer, we tell DataFast your email so that visits from your different devices can be connected to one record for attribution. We also use Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights to measure performance and aggregate traffic. We do not send the recipient’s information or anyone’s video messages to our analytics providers.
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking analytics cookies will not stop you from using Heard.
The services we rely on
We share information only with the providers that help us run Heard:
- Supabase for accounts and our database.
- Stripe for payments.
- Cloudflare R2 for storing video messages and images.
- Resend for sign-in and notification email.
- Vercel for hosting and performance analytics.
- DataFast for privacy-friendly traffic analytics.
Each of these processes data on our behalf under their own terms. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and gift data for as long as your gift is active, and for a reasonable period afterward so the reveal keeps working for the recipient. When you ask us to delete a gift, we remove its videos and images and delete the underlying records. Some information may persist briefly in backups before it ages out.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR (Europe) or the CCPA/CPRA (California), including the right to access or delete your data and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. To make a request, email us at privacy@giftheard.com.
Children
Heard is meant for adults arranging a gift. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. A contributor may appear in a video that an adult chooses to record and share; the adult who holds the gift controls that content and can remove it.
Changes
If we make a meaningful change to this policy, we will update the date at the top and, when appropriate, let you know. Continuing to use Heard after a change means you accept the updated policy.
